Duties:
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Sets up and maintains a safe, healthy and clean environment: classroom, building and grounds; completes environmental checks, daily child health checks, safety drills, and assigned cleaning duties.
- Conducts a home visit with enrolled families prior to the start of classes to provide program information and to gain child and family information that will guide individualized services; and a home visit at the end of the school year to review progress and support the child’s transition into their next school environment.
- Provides an “Open House” for children and parents prior to the start of school, and two conferences during the program year; helps plan, and participates in, parent/child activities.
- Sets up and maintains child files and a recordkeeping system for required program information, including Teaching Strategies GOLD; submits lesson plans and reports to assigned supervisor or appropriate office staff; and keeps documentation of events and incidents.
- Maintains frequent communication with parents/guardians, providing information and seeking input.
- Provides a nurturing and stimulating learning environment that models best practice for early childhood development, recognizes the importance of positive teacher-child interactions, and uses positive interventions and support.
- Implements a schedule and routine for staff and children that offers consistency for children, includes smooth transitions between activities, and supports classroom management with the intent of making sure no child is ever left unattended.
- Follows nutrition guidelines as identified in the Performance Standards and CACFP, and practices good personal hygiene each day, including daily teeth-brushing, and potty training as needed.
- Initiates a positive working relationship with the teacher associate, other co-workers, and parents, developing a team approach that encourages the completion of all health requirements, 45-day screenings and ongoing assessment, and early identification and intervention; and that supports school readiness and the overall well-being of the family.
- Prepares schedules for, supervises, and documents the participation of on-site volunteers with the assistance of the teacher associate.
- Understands the requirements of a Mandatory Reporter and follows the designated procedures to promote the safety of children and the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
- Supports the non-federal share by seeking classroom volunteers and planning appropriate “school readiness” activities for children and parents to do at home
- Attends training and/or meetings as required.
- Maintains necessary licensure or credential.
Qualifications:
- AA, BA/BS Early Childhood Education, Human Services, or a related field
- Two Years Teaching Early Childhood Experience, or
- One Year Experience in Early Childhood
- Satisfactory Background Check & Physical
