This resource highlights strategies discussed in the Head Start Science Teacher's Guide that teaching teams may use to help children learn their home language in addition to English. Teachers are encouraged to focus on language and literacy skills as integral to the exploration of science topics in the natural world. Specific suggestions from the Guide provide evidence-based practices that are effective for working with dual language learners in Head Start programs.

This Ready for Success installment focuses on early literacy development in dual language learners ages birth to five. The webinar is presented in three segments and the panelists use the Child Outcomes Framework to provide suggestions that may help Head Start and Early Head Start program staff serve young dual language learners in both center-based and home-based settings.

This dynamic and engaging webcast led by master storyteller Nina Jaffe and Latin jazz percussionist Asher Delerme features strategies for drawing on the diverse backgrounds of children and families to create culturally and linguistically responsive learning environments. Divided into four short segments, the webcast presents techniques and resources for interactive storytelling, folkgames, and building blocks for early literacy. Program directors, administrators and staff will find these strategies and the viewer's guide useful for professional development, parent outreach and curriculum integration.
There are many common myths that surround dual language learning. The Head Start community will learn of research findings on the myths and the implications of the research for dual language learners and their caregivers in Head Start and at home.
