Training Suites on Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities

Activity Matrix

Teacher reading to a toddler. An activity matrix is a tool to help educators and caregivers plan, organize, and implement learning opportunities throughout the natural activities, routines, and transitions in an infant or toddler’s day. Activity matrices can be used in home-based, family child care, and center-based early learning settings to maximize teaching and learning in typical, everyday situations and interactions. They also help ensure that infants and toddlers with disabilities receive enough learning opportunities to support their progress. Use the presentation slides, presenter notes, learning activities, and other handouts to support education staff to begin thinking about, and practice planning, an activity matrix in their own setting.
