Spanish Transcribing and Captioning

For captioning in Spanish, follow the guidelines for captioning video and audio files in English, plus these additional guidelines:

  • Use Latin American Spanish, as neutral as possible, in all caption translations.
  • Use “usted” and “ustedes” in caption translations when speakers refer to audience members. You might use “tú” when speakers are talking to each other.
  • To capture nonspoken content and sound effects, use [Música], [Inaudible], [Risas], [Sonido de instrumento], [Tos], [Bailando], [Jugando], [Llorando], etc.
  • For video within a video, use [Inicio del video] and [Fin del video].
